Yes, very insightful stuff. I find (as I believe most of the book buying public does) that even in this highly digitized age, that the best place to dig up richness and depth on any subject is from within the physical pages of books from a large library (whether personal or institutional).

As for thrillers revealing the most about human nature: this goes back to the axiom that the true content of a person's character is revealed in the most dire and stressful situations.

Going back down South (to Brazil this time), I found just the circumstances surrounding the characters in my novel Chaos and Rage uncloaked warehouses full of true villainy and heroism within the ultraviolent unfolding of the story.

My newspaper today has a front-page photograph of a rehearsal for Lucia Fest at Gloria Dei (Old Swedes) Church, so your picture had a familiar look to it.

Thanks for the kind mentions.
I really wish I could read Swedish, and didn't have to wait for English translations of prize winning books.

Many thanks for including the comments about SA crime fiction. For anyone interested in reading the books that have not reached an international market, they can be bought from reliable online book shops in South Africa. Visit the Crime Beat blog for a complete who's who in SA crime writing, and the links on the site should take you through to Kalahari or Loot or Exclusive Books.
